A man from Bihar has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special Judge (NDPS Act), Agartala, West District, for possessing and smuggling a large quantity of ganja.

The court convicted Mantu Yadav (55), a resident of Bihar, under Section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the NDPS Act and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In the event of non-payment of the fine, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.

The case was registered as SPL (NDPS) 95/2025, originating from Agartala GRPS Case No. 03/2025 under the NDPS Act.

As per the case records, on January 11, 2025, acting on confidential information, personnel of Agartala Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a search operation at Agartala Railway Station.

During the operation, a suspicious individual was intercepted and identified as Mantu Yadav. A total of 22.625 kg of dry ganja was recovered from his possession. Following necessary legal formalities, he was arrested.

The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kumar Das of Agartala GRPS, who later submitted the chargesheet before the court on June 30, 2025.

After examining the evidence and hearing the proceedings, the Special Court found Mantu Yadav guilty of the offence and awarded the punishment as per the provisions of the NDPS Act.
