The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday staged a protest rally in Agartala, demanding an independent and impartial investigation by a sitting judge of the Tripura High Court into the death of State Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.

The protest march, organized by the state Congress, began from the Congress Bhavan premises around 4 pm and moved through different parts of the city before reaching the Chief Minister’s residence, where party leaders held a demonstration.

Congress MLA and CWC member Sudip Roy Barman alleged that the state government has failed to initiate a proper inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the DGP’s death.

“People are still unaware of the exact circumstances in which the DGP died and who may be responsible. Several questions have emerged, creating doubts among the public. The people have the right to know the truth,” Roy Barman said.

He demanded that an inquiry commission headed by a sitting judge of the Tripura High Court be constituted to investigate the matter, stating that only such a probe could restore public confidence.

“The investigation must be conducted in a transparent manner so that people can trust the findings. At present, nothing is moving in the right direction. That is why we have come before the Chief Minister’s residence to urge immediate action,” he said.

Roy Barman further warned that if the government failed to order a judicial inquiry, the Congress would launch a larger protest movement across the state.
