Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday alleged that pressure from the government and an “extremely humiliating situation” forced Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar to take his own life. He claimed that even senior officials holding high positions were not safe under the present administration.

“The government’s words and actions do not match. Even officials holding high positions are not safe under this government,” Sarkar said while addressing a CPI(M) street-corner meeting at Madhupur Bazar under the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency.

Political activities intensified in the area as the CPI(M) organised the major meeting, which was attended by former minister Bhanulal Saha, CPI(M) leader Parthapratim Majumder, former Kamalasagar MLA Narayan Chowdhury, youth leader Hiranmoy Narayan Debnath and other party leaders.

Speaking on the recent death of DGP Anurag Dhankar, Sarkar alleged that government pressure and administrative circumstances led the senior police officer to take such an extreme step. His remarks triggered a fresh political debate in the state.

Sarkar also criticised the Central government over the NEET examination controversy, alleging serious irregularities and failures in the education system. He questioned the role of the Union Education Ministry and expressed concern over the future of lakhs of students.

The CPI(M) leaders also launched attacks on several policies of both the Central and State governments and accused the administration of failing on various fronts.

Meanwhile, tension reportedly prevailed at Madhupur Bazar as both the ruling party and opposition organised political programmes at the same location and time. Local sources said Madhupur Police Station had granted permission to both sides for meetings at the same venue, raising questions over the administration’s role.

Other CPI(M) speakers criticised the government and condemned alleged derogatory remarks made by some ruling party supporters against former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. They called for maintaining political decorum and preserving Tripura’s traditional political culture.

The meeting has further intensified political activity in the Kamalasagar constituency, with the political atmosphere remaining charged ahead of future electoral battles.
