The 9th State-Level Chapchar Kût–cum–Winter Festival 2026 was celebrated today at Hmunpui Playground, Jampui Hills of Tripura under North Tripura District showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Mizo community.
Organised by the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Tripura Group, with support from ICA and TTDCL, Government of Tripura and has drawn enthusiastic participation from people across Tripura and neighbouring Mizoram.
The festival, one of the most important cultural events of the Mizo community, aims to promote traditional values among the youth while strengthening community bonding. Attendees were treated to a vibrant array of cultural performances, traditional music, and folk displays that highlighted the spirit and customs of the Mizo people.
The event was graced by Chandni Chandran, IAS, District Magistrate & Collector (North Tripura), as the Chief Guest, and Debabrata Roy, TCS, BDO of Jampui Hills, as the Guest of Honour. Their presence added significance to the celebration, emphasising the need to preserve indigenous culture and heritage.
In a special recognition, Dr Zairemthiama Pachau, Founder and Chairman of Hillcrest Medical Centre Foundation, was honoured as the “Father of the Festival (Kût Pa)” for his enduring contributions to sustaining the tradition.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted this year’s festival theme, “Inremna”, a core Mizo value signifying peace, harmony, and reconciliation. They stressed the importance of nurturing these values and traditional practices in modern society to keep the community’s cultural identity alive.
Organisers said the festival serves as a vital platform to strengthen community ties, celebrate heritage, and inspire the younger generation to appreciate and carry forward Mizo traditions.
