The Tripura State Committee of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) has opposed the government's decision to deploy a large number of school teachers for the upcoming Census, citing the acute shortage of teachers in government schools across the state.

In a press statement, the organisation urged the state government to immediately reconsider its decision, arguing that the move would further disrupt the already struggling education system.

According to SFI, government schools in Tripura are facing a severe shortage of teachers and inadequate infrastructure, resulting in significant disruptions to classroom teaching. The organisation claimed that students in several schools have been compelled to stage protests demanding the appointment of teachers.

Against this backdrop, SFI expressed concern over the government's reported decision to engage nearly 9,000 teachers in Census-related duties. It said that assigning such a large number of teachers to non-teaching responsibilities would seriously affect regular academic activities and adversely impact students' education.

The organisation has demanded that the government withdraw or revise the decision in the interest of students. It also appealed to students, teachers, and parents to unite and protest against the move.
