South District Hospital in Santirbazar has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery with the introduction of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) services, enabling patients to receive advanced critical care within the district and reducing dependence on referrals to hospitals in Agartala.

A high-level team led by Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte visited the hospital on Thursday to assess healthcare services, inspect newly upgraded facilities and review ongoing infrastructure development.

During the visit, the delegation toured several sections of the hospital, including the laboratory, diagnostic units, male and female wards, as well as the newly established ICU and CCU. The team examined the functioning of various departments and discussed measures to further strengthen patient care and healthcare delivery.

Health Secretary Gitte interacted with patients admitted to the hospital to understand their experiences and sought feedback on the quality of treatment and services. He also held detailed discussions with doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel to identify operational challenges and explore ways to enhance medical services.

The visiting officials commended the hospital's medical and support staff for their commitment to providing quality healthcare. They appreciated the dedication of doctors, nursing officers and other employees in ensuring accessible and patient-centric treatment for the people of South Tripura.

Officials noted that the addition of ICU and CCU facilities would considerably enhance the district's emergency and critical care capabilities. Patients requiring intensive monitoring or specialised cardiac treatment can now receive advanced care closer to home, minimising the need for referrals to tertiary hospitals outside the district.

The government believes the upgraded facilities will further strengthen Tripura's healthcare network and improve access to modern medical services for residents of South Tripura.

The inspection team included Santirbazar MLA Pramod Reang, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, South District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P, Chief Medical Officer Dr. J.M. Das and Medical Superintendent of South District Hospital Dr. H. Mog, along with other senior officials.
