West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, who has been entrusted with investigating the death of former Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a comprehensive, coordinated and time-bound probe into the case.

The SIT has been constituted in connection with West Agartala Police Station U.D. Case No. 2026WAG045, registered on July 20 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), following the recovery of Dhankar's body inside the washroom of his official chamber at the State Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Agartala on the same day.

According to the official order issued by SP Namit Pathak, the investigation team will be headed by him and includes Additional SP (Urban) Dhruba Nath, Additional SP (AN) Souvik De, Deputy Superintendent of Police Benjam Dewan, Inspector Rana Chatterjee, Inspector Bhaskar Saha, Inspector Shiuli Das, Sub-Inspector Subhojit Deb, who is the present Investigating Officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Subendu Das and Sub-Inspector Chinmoy Bhowmik.

The order mandates the SIT to carry out the investigation in a coordinated manner and strictly in accordance with the law. Daily briefing meetings will be held at 11:30 am in the chamber of the Superintendent of Police to review the progress of the investigation, assess new developments, allocate responsibilities and formulate the next course of action. A debriefing session will also be conducted every day at 7:30 pm to evaluate the day's work, identify any gaps in the investigation and plan subsequent steps.

To ensure close monitoring, all officers have been directed to submit daily progress reports detailing investigative work carried out, evidence collected, technical analysis undertaken and the proposed future course of action. In addition, a consolidated weekly report will be prepared every Saturday and forwarded to the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order).

The order further directs all members of the SIT to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the investigation and conduct the probe in a professional, impartial and legally compliant manner. It also cautions that any deviation from the prescribed instructions will be viewed seriously. The order has come into force with immediate effect.
