Police have arrested a suspected habitual thief from Charipara on the outskirts of Agartala and recovered several items believed to have been stolen, officials said on Sunday.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Malu Mia. According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee, police launched an operation in the Charipara area after receiving specific information and apprehended the accused.
During the initial investigation, police reportedly found evidence indicating Malu Mia’s possible involvement in multiple theft cases. Several articles suspected to be stolen were also recovered from his possession.
Police are now investigating the source of the recovered items and verifying allegations of his involvement in earlier theft incidents. Investigators are also examining whether the accused has connections with other individuals involved in similar crimes.
Malu Mia is being questioned to gather more information about the theft cases and identify any possible associates. Police officials said additional arrests could be made if further involvement comes to light during the investigation.
The accused is scheduled to be produced before a court on Sunday. Police are expected to seek further questioning as they continue their probe into the suspected theft network.
