The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura on Monday staged a massive protest rally in Agartala against alleged derogatory remarks made by Congress and RJD leaders about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother.

The rally also targeted the CPI(M)-Congress alliance, accusing them of running a “malicious campaign” against the BJP government by spreading misinformation.

The protest was led by BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, along with Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare and ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit, Secretary Devid Debbarma, several MLAs, and other party leaders. Following the rally, BJP leaders staged a dharna in front of the Pradesh Congress Bhawan.

Speaking at the protest, Rajib Bhattacharya said, “Everyone knows that in Darbhanga, Bihar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav used abusive language against the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We strongly condemn such remarks and launched this rally as a mark of protest.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury alleged that CPI(M) and Congress have been engaged in a continuous campaign to “slander BJP and the Prime Minister” by misleading the public with false claims. “They cannot mislead people with dirty politics as they did during their tenure. People of Tripura rejected them and placed faith in BJP. Our government, under the leadership of the Centre, is committed to working for all sections of society,” he said.
