Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has sought urgent intervention from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari over the worsening condition of several national highways in the state, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season.

In a letter addressed to Gadkari, the Chief Minister highlighted the deteriorating stretches of National Highway-08, connecting Churaibari in North Tripura to Agartala in West Tripura, along with NH-208 and NH-108B, which links Kumarghat, Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Khowai and Agartala.

Dr. Saha requested the Ministry to send a senior team from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to inspect the affected roads and take immediate steps to restore them to a safe and motorable condition.

The Chief Minister also urged the Union Minister to direct the NHIDCL Managing Director to conduct regular reviews with officials stationed in Tripura and closely monitor ongoing road construction and repair works to ensure timely completion.

Speaking to reporters, Saha said the state government has been consistently raising the issue with the concerned authorities. He mentioned that he had earlier discussed the matter with Union Minister Gadkari and had warned that road conditions could worsen again during the rainy season.

“Yesterday, I wrote to the Secretary, and he also visited the affected areas. Today, I have again taken up the matter through a letter. We had already informed the authorities that the problem may return with heavy rainfall,” the Chief Minister said.

He further stated that Tripura Chief Secretary Kiran Gitte has also communicated with the concerned departments regarding the issue.

“We are continuously following up and putting pressure on the authorities. These highways fall under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, not directly under the state government. We have repeatedly brought the difficulties faced by people to their notice, and necessary action is being taken,” Saha added.
