Three individuals, including two women, have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, in connection with the suicide of delivery worker Prasenjit Sarkar.

Sarkar, employed with Blue Dart Courier, allegedly took his own life on December 14 after reportedly being harassed and physically assaulted by the trio over a parcel dispute that drew attention on social media.

According to the Additional Public Prosecutor, the Dharmanagar Police had registered an FIR on the day of the incident. “The accused were produced before the CJM court following their arrest in Sribhumi, Assam. The court denied their bail request and remanded them in judicial custody until December 30, during which further investigation will continue,” the prosecutor said.

The arrested individuals—Sangeeta Bhattacharya, Sushmita Bhattacharya, and Saurabh Bhattacharya—have been taken to Churaibari Police Station. Saurabh is reportedly the main accused.

North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai confirmed the arrests, stating they came after a confidential tip-off. “While we recognize the public’s demand for justice, attempts to mislead or obstruct the investigation hamper the process,” he added.

The case follows the tragic death of Sarkar, whose body was found hanging in the Kameshwar area of Dharmanagar. Eyewitnesses and police reports indicate that Sarkar had been subjected to mental and physical harassment by the group, which is believed to have led to his suicide.

Following the incident, five individuals were named in the FIR, sparking protests across Tripura demanding justice. While three suspects have been arrested, two remain at large. Protesters maintain that arrests alone are not enough and are calling for comprehensive justice, compensation, and support for Sarkar’s family, who face severe hardship as he was the sole breadwinner.
