Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, a senior IPS officer, was found dead inside his office chamber at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Agartala on Monday in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.
According to preliminary reports, Dhankar was discovered hanging inside his office. He was immediately taken to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. Further medico-legal procedures are currently underway.
Senior police officials have reached the Police Headquarters, and the area has been secured as investigators begin probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination. No official statement has yet been issued by the Tripura Police regarding the incident.
