In a major initiative aimed at strengthening skill development and employment opportunities for the youth of Tripura, a high-level delegation led by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma visited the World Skill Centre (WSC) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Friday.

The visit was undertaken to study the successful functioning of Odisha’s premier skill development institution and gather insights for the proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub planned at Hapania, Agartala.

The upcoming centre is envisioned as a modern Centre of Excellence that will focus on advanced skill training, industry-relevant education, career guidance, employability enhancement, entrepreneurship development, and placement support. The initiative seeks to equip Tripura’s youth with skills aligned to emerging technologies and evolving industry demands, thereby improving their competitiveness in both national and international job markets.

Recognizing the achievements of the World Skill Centre, Odisha, the Government of Tripura has partnered with the institution as a Knowledge Partner for the project. Under this collaboration, WSC Odisha will extend technical expertise in areas such as infrastructure planning, laboratory setup, equipment selection, curriculum design, certification frameworks, faculty training, industry engagement, and operational management.

During the visit, the Tripura delegation reviewed various facilities at the centre, including advanced laboratories, smart learning environments, simulation-based training units, assessment systems, and placement support mechanisms. The team also examined the institution’s industry partnerships and international collaborations that contribute to its success.

The delegation interacted with faculty members, technical specialists, trainees, and industry representatives to gain valuable insights into best practices in skill development and workforce readiness. The knowledge gained from the visit is expected to play a key role in shaping Tripura’s proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub into a leading institution for skill development and employment generation in the region.
