The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has called for a report from the state Director General of Police (DGP) regarding allegations of police inaction in connection with a road accident that eventually claimed the life of a young man in Udaipur, Gomati district.

The case was brought to the Commission’s notice through a complaint lodged by Pintu Paul of East Dhajanagar. He stated that his elder brother, Suman Paul, passed away on January 7, 2025, following complications from a traffic accident that occurred on October 17, 2024.

According to the complaint, the accident took place near Gokulpur Shastriji Sangha when a motorcycle (TR-03-M 6307) collided with an auto-rickshaw (TR-03-C 2523), leaving the motorcyclist seriously injured. Initially treated at Udaipur District Hospital and later by private practitioners, Suman’s health worsened in December 2024 due to a blood clot in his head. Despite undergoing surgery at ILS Hospital, Agartala, and receiving further care at GBP & AGMC Hospital, he died in early January.

The complainant further alleged that when he approached R.K. Pur Police Station to lodge an FIR under Section 154 CrPC against the auto driver for rash and negligent driving, the officer-in-charge declined to register the case. Even after submitting a representation to the Superintendent of Police, Gomati District, on September 2, 2025, no action followed.

Taking cognizance of the allegations, THRC Chairperson Justice Arindam Lodh observed that the complaint indicated clear inaction on the part of police officials. The Commission has forwarded the matter to the DGP and directed him to submit a detailed report within three weeks. The case is scheduled for the next hearing on October 13, 2025.
