Tripura is set to play a pivotal role in strengthening trade and connectivity between India and Bangladesh, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Saha expressed strong optimism about the future of India-Bangladesh relations, underlining the deep interdependence and shared destiny of the two neighbouring nations. He stated that neither country can progress in isolation.
“We cannot move forward without Bangladesh, and Bangladesh cannot move forward without us. Neighbours must stand by each other to truly advance,” he said.
Highlighting the longstanding historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two countries, the Chief Minister emphasized that geographical proximity and mutual dependence make it essential to further strengthen bilateral relations. As a border state, Tripura plays a crucial role in promoting trade, connectivity, and cultural exchanges with Bangladesh, he added.
Referring to the construction of the Maitri Setu, Dr. Saha said the primary objective of the project was to enhance commercial and economic connectivity between the two nations. The bridge has significantly improved access and created new opportunities for cross-border trade and cooperation.
He also highlighted the rail connectivity at Nischintapur, noting that the new rail link is expected to provide fresh momentum to passenger travel and goods transportation between India and Bangladesh. The improved connectivity is likely to boost tourism, business, and industry, thereby accelerating socio-economic development for people on both sides of the border.
Emphasizing cooperation, trust, and goodwill as the foundation of bilateral ties, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that India and Bangladesh will continue to build an even closer partnership in the coming years. He said joint initiatives and shared commitment would remain key drivers of development in border regions and contribute to the overall progress of both nations.
