The Tribal Students’ Federation of Tripura (TSF) staged a protest on Wednesday demanding the immediate filling of long-pending backlog vacancies reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in government departments.
The organisation alleged that a large number of posts reserved for SC and ST candidates have remained vacant for several years across various government offices. According to TSF, this has deprived eligible candidates of employment opportunities and weakened representation of these communities in public services.
Speaking to reporters at the protest site, TSF Vice President Jon Debbarma said the primary demand is the launch of a special recruitment drive to fill all backlog reserved vacancies. “This is not a demand for any new policy, but for the implementation of constitutional rights. We expect the government to take swift action in this regard,” he said.
TSF leaders further claimed that despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the government’s attention over the years, no effective or permanent solution has been implemented so far. They stressed that timely recruitment against reserved posts is essential to ensure social justice and inclusive representation in government employment.
The organisation also stated that filling backlog vacancies would ensure proper implementation of reservation policies. It urged the state government to compile a comprehensive list of all reserved vacancies across departments and immediately initiate a special recruitment process.
Warning of intensified agitation in the coming days if their demands are not met, TSF also called on the state administration to announce a clear roadmap for filling reserved vacancies without further delay.
