Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Monday conducted a surprise inspection of several student hostels in Agartala after receiving complaints regarding alleged irregularities in the supply and quality of food at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls’ Hostel on Jagannath Bari Road.

During his visit to the hostel, the Minister interacted with resident students and listened to their concerns regarding food arrangements and other facilities. He also gathered details from officials and staff associated with the hostel management.

Following the inspection, Debbarma instructed the concerned authorities to carry out a fair, transparent and detailed inquiry into the allegations. He directed that appropriate action should be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

“Any negligence or irregularity affecting the rights, safety and welfare of students will not be accepted. If the allegations are proven, strict action will be taken against those responsible according to government regulations,” the Minister stated.

As part of his inspection programme, the Tribal Welfare Minister later visited the Bodhjung Street Boys’ Hostel and the Women’s College ST Girls’ Hostel in Agartala. He reviewed the overall living conditions, infrastructure, management system and facilities being provided to students.

During the visits, Debbarma assessed the existing arrangements and assured that necessary steps would be taken to improve hostel facilities and create a safer, healthier and more comfortable environment for students.

The Minister reiterated that ensuring the welfare of students remains a priority for the government, adding that every initiative aimed at supporting young learners contributes to building a skilled, confident and progressive society.
