Two more kidney transplant surgeries are scheduled to be performed at Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital on July 14 and 15, 2026, marking the eighth and ninth kidney transplant procedures in the state.

The successful kidney transplant programme at GBP Hospital has been made possible through the sincere efforts of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.

The initiative has provided significant relief to kidney patients in Tripura who previously had to depend on treatment facilities outside the state.

Under the supervision of kidney transplant specialists from GBP Hospital and SHIJA Hospital Research Institute, Manipur, seven successful kidney transplant surgeries have already been completed. The first kidney transplant in Tripura was performed on July 8, 2024, while the sixth and seventh transplants were successfully carried out on March 30 and 31, 2026.

The upcoming transplant procedures will involve two patients aged 23 and 25 years. Specialist doctors from GBP Hospital and SHIJA Hospital, Manipur, will participate in the transplant process. Necessary medical examinations of both the kidney donors and recipients are currently underway at Government Medical College and GBP Hospital.

Officials stated that kidney transplant decisions are taken only after following all prescribed rules and regulations, including approval from the concerned Authorization Committee. Besides various medical assessments, compatibility between the donor and recipient’s kidneys is also mandatory before proceeding with the transplant.
