Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today described the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme as a landmark initiative in empowering farmers across the country.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership for launching and successfully implementing various schemes that prioritize the welfare of farmers.
Dr. Saha was speaking at an event organized on the occasion of the release of the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme. On this day, Prime Minister Modi virtually disbursed Rs. 20,500 crore to farmers nationwide, including those in Tripura. From Tripura alone, around 2.84 lakh farmers received a total of Rs. 45.43 crore under the scheme.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to national security and transparency, Dr. Saha lauded PM Modi’s leadership across various sectors. “Today, PM Modi has empowered our soldiers. We have seen bold actions like Operation Sindoor. He warned that from Bihar to beyond, no one involved in anti-national activities will be spared. Within 25 minutes, the Indian Air Force entered Pakistan, deployed drones, and destroyed nine terrorist camps. India never attacks first, but under PM Modi’s leadership, we respond with strength. We remember the attacks on Parliament and the Taj Hotel, and how little was done then. Today, that scenario has changed.”
Emphasizing the role of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), the Chief Minister pointed out that the current government has ensured transparency in all welfare schemes. “Earlier, there were middlemen. Today, money is directly deposited in farmers’ accounts through DBT. Farmers receive Rs. 6,000 annually in three installments. Since the launch of PM-KISAN in 2019, around 2.90 lakh farmers have registered in Tripura. In the 19th installment, approximately 2.84 lakh farmers received a disbursement of Rs. 844 crore 8 lakh 88 thousand.”
Referring to the national rollout, Dr. Saha added that from an event held in Banauli, Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi transferred funds to nearly 9.7 crore farmers across the country.
District-wise in Tripura, Rs. 7.44 crore was disbursed in Dhalai, Rs. 7.24 crore in Gomati, Rs. 4.23 crore in Khowai, Rs. 8.41 crore in North Tripura, Rs. 5.34 crore in Sepahijala, Rs. 5.94 crore in South Tripura, Rs. 3.17 crore in Unakoti, and Rs. 3.62 crore in West Tripura.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the success of other schemes benefiting farmers and women. “These funds are a testament to the transparency and commitment of our government. We now have over 51,000 Lakhpati Didis. Under the Fasal Bima Yojana, Rs. 10.63 crore has been disbursed. Additionally, Rs. 2,252 crore was provided under the Kisan Credit Card scheme.”
He noted the state's success in procurement as well. “We began purchasing paddy directly from farmers at a Minimum Support Price of Rs. 23 per kg. So far, 2,25,365 metric tonnes of paddy have been procured, and farmers have received Rs. 446 crore in return.”
The event also saw the presence of Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, along with other dignitaries and officials.
