TIPRA Motha Party founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma today has urged Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the arrest of two Kerala-based nuns and a tribal woman in Durg.
In a letter to the Chief Minister following their recent meeting in New Delhi, Pradyot raised concern over the July 25 detention of Sisters Preeti Marry and Vandana Francis, along with local tribal woman Sukhman Mandavi, at Durg railway station. Citing inputs from various sources, including BJP leaders from Kerala, he questioned the credibility of the charges and flagged the possibility of political or communal bias.
"This seems to be a case of harassment against members of the Christian minority who have devoted their lives to social work," Pradyot wrote. He called for a free, fair, and transparent probe to prevent any miscarriage of justice.
The TIPRA Motha leader underscored the broader implications of the case, stressing the importance of safeguarding those working for marginalized communities, particularly when they belong to minority groups.
Concluding his appeal, Pradyot requested the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister to handle the matter with urgency and sensitivity, in the interest of upholding justice, communal harmony, and public trust in democratic institutions.
