Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, an alumnus of Patna Dental College and Hospital, took a nostalgic trip down memory lane during his visit to his alma mater on Tuesday.
Reflecting on his student days, he praised the remarkable progress in Bihar’s health infrastructure under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
“There is a stark difference between the facilities back then and now. During my college days, resources were limited. Today, this institute is scaling new heights,” Saha said.
“Under the able leadership of PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, health services in Bihar have seen consistent improvement.”
Dr. Saha was the chief guest at the Abhinandan Samaroh (felicitation ceremony) held at the college.
Speaking at the event, which was also attended by Bihar’s Health and Law Minister Mangal Pandey, the Tripura CM shared fond memories and heartfelt experiences from his days as a dental student in Patna.
“Privileged to attend the ‘Abhinandan Samaroh’ ceremony at Patna Dental College & Hospital alongside Health & Law Minister Mangal Pandey ji. Delighted to address my alma mater, sharing cherished memories & experiences with the esteemed audience,” Saha later posted on his social media handle.
During his Patna visit, Dr. Saha also met Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu, Bihar Industries Minister Nitish Mishra, and Samastipur MP Shambhavi Choudhary.
In a social media post, he wrote: “It was wonderful sharing my thoughts with the bright students and esteemed faculty members. Grateful for the warm hospitality.”
Expressing gratitude towards Minister Mangal Pandey, Saha said he had initially wished to visit the college informally. “But due to Pandey ji’s special request and affection, it turned into a formal and grand event,” he said.
Minister Pandey, in turn, expressed pride over Saha’s visit.
“It is a matter of great joy that Dr. Saha is an alumnus of Patna Dental College. As the health minister, I feel proud that someone who studied in Bihar has risen to become the Chief Minister of Tripura and is serving the nation through a nationalist vision,” he remarked. “I learned that he studied here nearly 48 years ago.”
The minister also announced plans to enhance the college's capacity. “Currently, the college has 40 seats, which we are planning to increase to 100 soon. We’ve also ensured facilities for three types of X-rays, along with ample availability of medicines, dental chairs, and modern technical equipment,” he added.
The event was graced by Health Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, Principal Dr. Tanuj Kumar, former principals, faculty members, staff, and students of the college.
