Tripura Ex CM slams CPIM for supporting Naxal, distributes flood relief

Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday criticized the CPIM for what he alleged was its soft stance on Naxal activities and questioned the party’s relevance in Tripura’s democratic framework.

Speaking during a visit to relief camps in Agartala, where he distributed materials to families affected by the recent flood, Deb said, “Naxals are a banned organization with no place in a democracy. Yet CPIM continues to speak in their favour. If they have any sense of accountability, they should shut their party offices here and settle in China.”

Deb’s remarks come amidst ongoing relief operations following heavy rainfall that caused the Howrah River to overflow, flooding several low-lying areas in the capital.

The MP said the state government is prioritizing hygiene and sanitation in both public and private spaces to prevent outbreaks of disease in the aftermath of the flood.

“Floods are an annual challenge for Agartala. The current administration is working to strengthen the city’s drainage and sewer systems to mitigate future risks. I am visiting multiple camps today to oversee relief distribution,” Deb added.

He informed that as water levels recede, many families have begun returning to their homes.

“To support them in this transition, I am distributing food packets to ensure they have enough supplies for the next few days. Most of these people are daily wage earners and now face the added burden of cleaning up their homes,” he said.

Deb also acknowledged the efforts of voluntary groups like the Ramakrishna Mission and other social organizations, which have joined the administration in providing food, medical aid, and other essentials to the flood-hit population.
