Tripura Police arrested six, seized narcotics worth over Rs 1.5 Crore

In a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations, Tripura Police on Monday seized a significant quantity of illegal drugs worth over ₹1.5 crore from various parts of the state, resulting in the arrest of six individuals.

In the first operation, Kamalpur Sub-Divisional Police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a truck with a West Bengal registration plate in Dhalai district during the early hours of the day. During the inspection, police recovered 310 kilograms of dry cannabis, packed in 31 packets, hidden in the vehicle.

“The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹1.5 crore. We have detained one person, identified as Rabi Kumar, a resident of Bihar, in connection with the case,” said Kamalpur SDPO Samudra Debbarma.

In a separate crackdown, East Agartala Police arrested four alleged drug peddlers during a raid in the Lal Matia area of Maharajganj Market. Acting on specific intelligence, the police seized 1,200 vials of brown sugar, ₹7,000 in cash, a mobile phone, a scooter, and a motorcycle.

“The estimated street value of the seized brown sugar is over ₹1.5 lakh. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajib Roy, Mithun Das, Rahul Roy, and Bimal Bardhan. Police will seek their remand after producing them in court,” said Sadar SDPO Debprasad Roy.

East Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee confirmed that the operation was based on credible intelligence inputs regarding ongoing drug peddling in the locality.

In another major bust, Tripura Police launched a pre-dawn raid at the residence of Sirajul Islam in Ghaniamara, under the Bishalgarh Sub-Division of Sepahijala district. The raid led to the recovery of 170 kilograms of dry cannabis.

Sirajul Islam was arrested at the spot, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Bishalgarh Police Station.
