The much-anticipated week-long Kharchi Festival is all set to begin tomorrow at the revered Chaturdash Devata Temple popularly known as the Fourteen Deity Temple in Old Agartala.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the vibrant celebration today at 11 AM, marking the beginning of one of Tripura’s most cherished traditional and religious festivals.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by several eminent dignitaries, including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, MLA Swapna Debbarma, and Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Jharna Rani Das, who will attend as guests of honour.
MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who also serves as the Chairman of the Kharchi Festival Executive Committee, will preside over the event.
The programme will also see the presence of key officials and respected figures such as Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department; Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of the Tourism Department; Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura; Animesh Dhar, SDM of Jirania; and noted social worker Rajesh Bhowmik, who will attend as special guests.
Celebrated with deep religious fervour and cultural grandeur, the Kharchi Festival draws thousands of devotees and tourists each year. Alongside sacred rituals, the event features a lively fair and exhibition, showcasing local handicrafts, indigenous cuisine, and traditional cultural performances, adding colour and charm to the festivities throughout the week.
