In a significant move aimed at upgrading civic infrastructure, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder today announced the installation of a modern electric crematorium furnace at Chinaihani crematorium under the Barjala Assembly Constituency. The project, estimated at Rs 1.25 crore, is expected to be completed within the next three months.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of a beautification initiative at the cremation ground, which has recently undergone extensive improvements.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Majumder highlighted AMC's commitment to transforming Chinaihani Mahashmashan into a modern and well-equipped facility. He informed that nearly ₹20 lakh has already been invested in beautification and infrastructure enhancement works, including environmental improvements, cleanliness measures, seating arrangements, and other essential amenities for visitors.

He further stated that additional development projects are being planned to strengthen the overall infrastructure of the cremation ground and improve public convenience.

Emphasizing the importance of the upcoming electric crematorium, the Mayor said the facility would ensure a faster, cleaner, and more environmentally sustainable cremation process. The new system is expected to reduce waiting times, improve operational efficiency, and provide a more dignified service to grieving families.

According to Majumder, the project fulfills a long-standing demand of local residents and reflects the corporation's focus on modernizing public facilities across the city.

The programme was attended by local public representatives, senior AMC officials, and prominent community members, who welcomed the initiative and urged authorities to expedite the installation process.

Residents expressed optimism that the electric crematorium and ongoing beautification efforts would transform Chinaihani Mahashmashan into one of the most modern cremation facilities in the region, benefiting people from Agartala and surrounding areas.
