The Teachers' Forum of the Agartala Government Medical College Teachers' Forum has announced that faculty members of Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital will continue with the existing policy of optional private practice until the government issues a formal notification prohibiting it.

The decision was taken at an Executive Committee meeting of the Forum held on July 6 at 10:30 a.m. under the chairmanship of its President. The meeting was convened to discuss issues relating to the proposed prohibition of private practice by doctors and faculty members of AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Following detailed deliberations, the Executive Committee observed that, to the best of its knowledge, no formal government notification implementing the proposed ban had been issued as of the date of the meeting. In view of this, the Forum resolved that the current policy allowing optional private practice would remain in effect until an official notification or directive is issued by the competent authority.

The Forum stated that the decision was taken in the interest of ensuring uninterrupted patient care and maintaining public health services.

The Executive Committee also appealed to all faculty members and doctors to continue performing their professional duties with dedication and discipline while strictly adhering to the prevailing government rules and regulations.

The statement comes amid discussions over a proposed policy to prohibit private practice by government doctors and medical college faculty in the state. However, the Forum maintained that any change in the existing arrangement should only follow a formal government notification.
