In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Customs Department seized a huge consignment of methamphetamine tablets in Tripura’s Khowai district yetarday late night.
Acting on specific intelligence, the joint team intercepted a Maruti Suzuki WagonR (registration number TR 04 F 0698) and, upon a thorough search, recovered two large packets containing 20,000 methamphetamine tablets weighing 2 kg. The market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around ₹2 crore.
The driver of the vehicle along with three others were apprehended during the operation. The seized contraband and the detainees have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Assam Rifles officials said the force, in close coordination with other enforcement agencies, is determined to curb illegal activities and ensure peace and security in the region.
