In a tragic incident reported from Nabincherra village under the Pecharthal RD Block in Tripura’s Unakoti district, a brother and sister lost their lives after a sudden lightning strike hit their house during heavy rainfall on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Sumanta Chakma (30) and Mina Chakma (27). According to local sources, the siblings were inside their residence when lightning reportedly struck the house, leaving both critically injured.

Family members and local residents immediately rushed to their rescue and took them to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite the doctors’ efforts, both were declared dead upon arrival.

The heartbreaking incident has cast a deep shadow of grief across Nabincherra and nearby areas. Residents described the deaths as a devastating loss for the family and the local community.

Following the tragedy, local people have appealed to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to provide financial assistance to the bereaved family from the Disaster Management Fund. Residents have also urged the District Administration of Unakoti to take immediate steps to ensure adequate compensation and necessary relief support for the affected family under disaster management and relief provisions.

Authorities are reportedly looking into the incident.
