A fresh road accident allegedly caused by negligent driving took place on National Highway-8 near Salthang Manu Village, leaving a couple seriously injured after a head-on collision between a Bolero pickup vehicle and a Tata Punch car.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the couple was travelling towards Jolaibari in a Tata Punch bearing registration number TR08-E-0719 after visiting their in-laws’ house. At the same time, a Bolero pickup vehicle bearing registration number TR08-A-1619 was approaching from the opposite direction. The accident occurred when the pickup reportedly attempted to move from the right side of the road to the left, leading to a direct collision between the two vehicles.

The couple travelling in the Tata Punch sustained serious injuries in the crash. Upon receiving information about the incident, Tipra Motha South Zonal Joint Chairman Harendra Reang rushed to the spot. As the fire service vehicle was delayed, he, along with local residents, rescued the injured victims and transported them to the South District Hospital in his own vehicle. The injured couple is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police from Monpathar Police Station later arrived at the scene and seized both damaged vehicles. Preliminary investigation suggests that careless driving was the primary cause of the accident. However, police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, local residents have expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents on this stretch of NH-8. They alleged that overspeeding and frequent violations of traffic rules are leading to repeated mishaps in the area. Residents have urged the administration to strengthen traffic monitoring and implement stricter road safety measures.
