A serious allegation of financial irregularity has surfaced in Bramhakund Gram Panchayat, where a local elected representative has been accused of misusing housing scheme funds meant for an elderly tea garden worker.
The complainant, 72-year-old Champa Munda of Ward No. 5, had received Rs 96,000 in two installments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to build her house. She used the money to complete most of the construction, but the fencing work around the house remained unfinished.
Locals allege that panchayat member Kishan Santal assured the family that he would take care of the remaining work. He later reportedly installed tin sheets around the house and submitted photographs to the panchayat claiming that the construction had been completed. Following this, the final installment of Rs 32,000 was released to Champa Munda’s bank account.
However, the family claims that Kishan Santal subsequently accompanied her to a bank and withdrew the entire amount in two installments. They further allege that after the money was withdrawn, the tin sheets installed around the house were also removed.
Champa Munda’s son, Krishna Munda, said that despite raising the issue with other panchayat members, no action has been taken and the house remains incomplete.
The incident has sparked strong resentment among locals, who are demanding a proper investigation, completion of the house construction, and strict action against those found responsible.
