Four police personnel, including an Inspector, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of Tripura Police for allegedly tampering with narcotics seized in a case at Teliamura Police Station.
According to police officials, the action was taken following instructions from Tripura DGP Anurag after a case was registered on May 24, 2026, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the NDPS Act.
The arrested personnel have been identified as Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, Woman Sub-Inspector Sampa Das, all posted at Teliamura Police Station, and ASI Sachindra Debbarma.
The incident reportedly occurred during the night of May 20–21, when a police patrol intercepted a white Maruti Eeco vehicle and recovered a large quantity of codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup. The seized items were brought to the police station for further legal procedures.
During a later review of CCTV footage from the station, investigators allegedly discovered that part of the seized contraband had been removed from the GD Room before the official seizure process was completed. Preliminary findings suggest that nearly 245 bottles of 100 ml Eskuf cough syrup, classified as commercial quantity under the NDPS Act, were secretly removed and concealed.
Police also alleged that the seizure officer failed to mention the complete quantity of recovered contraband in the official records.
The complaint in the case was lodged by Justin Joseph, while the investigation is being conducted by Inspector Jayanta Kumar Dey.
All four accused officers have been suspended and were produced before the court on Monday. Police officials stated that an impartial investigation into the matter is underway.
