A landmark transformation is underway in North Tripura as the old jail premises at Juri is being converted into a vibrant hub for rural entrepreneurship, local culture, and community engagement. The initiative, titled Integrated Marketing Centre – JURI HAAT, has been sanctioned by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) under the North Tripura District Mission Management Unit (DMMU).

The project aims to breathe new life into the historic site by creating a modern marketplace where rural women entrepreneurs can showcase and sell a variety of handcrafted and locally produced items. The centre will feature products made by Women Self-Help Group (SHG) members, providing them with greater market access and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Adding to its appeal, JURI HAAT will house a Coffee House and a Restaurant serving authentic local delicacies, offering visitors a unique blend of shopping, dining, and cultural experiences.

The initiative reflects TRLM's continued focus on strengthening rural livelihoods, empowering women, and promoting indigenous craftsmanship. By bringing together local products, traditional flavours, and entrepreneurial spirit under one roof, JURI HAAT is expected to emerge as a major attraction for both residents and tourists.

Renovation work is progressing rapidly, with more than 90 percent of the project already completed. Final preparations are currently underway, and the grand inauguration is expected to take place soon.

Once opened, JURI HAAT will stand as a symbol of transformation—turning a place once associated with confinement into a centre of opportunity, economic growth, and community pride. Every purchase made at the marketplace will directly support the aspirations of rural women and contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
