In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended two youths at Udaipur Railway Station on suspicion of transporting cannabis by train. Police sources identified both individuals as residents of the Sonamura subdivision.
According to officials, the accused were travelling on the Kanchanjunga Express from Sabroom and were allegedly carrying a large quantity of cannabis intended for transportation to Dharmanagar. Acting on specific intelligence, GRP personnel kept a close watch at Udaipur station and launched a search operation when the train arrived.
During the inspection, police intercepted the two suspects and recovered two bags containing a significant quantity of suspected cannabis. The exact weight of the seized contraband is yet to be confirmed.
The detainees are being interrogated as investigators seek to uncover the broader network behind the alleged smuggling operation. Police are also probing whether additional individuals were involved in the trafficking attempt.
A case will be registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal action will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
Officials stated that the probe is ongoing and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
