Despite repeated claims of development, residents of North and South Padmabil under the Panisagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura continue to suffer from a severe communication and transportation crisis. Nearly 450 families are forced to rely on a badly damaged road and a dilapidated steel bridge for their daily commute.

According to local sources, the road connecting Jalabazar and Bazar area has remained in a deplorable condition for several years. The situation is further aggravated by the deteriorating condition of an old steel (railway) bridge, which serves as the only means of access for residents. Several parts of the bridge have reportedly been damaged, raising fears of a major accident at any time.

The condition of the bridge has become a serious concern for more than 200 students from the North and South Padmabil areas who cross it every day to attend school. Parents allege that the bridge is so unsafe that young children cannot be allowed to cross it alone. As a result, many guardians accompany their children daily to ensure their safety.

Residents also claim that emergency healthcare services are being severely affected. Ambulances are unable to reach the area due to the poor condition of the road and bridge. In cases involving pregnant women or critically ill patients, villagers are often compelled to carry them across the hazardous bridge on their shoulders or in makeshift carriers to access medical facilities.

Locals allege that they have repeatedly informed the administration and elected representatives about the deteriorating infrastructure, but no effective measures have been taken so far. The situation reportedly worsens during the monsoon season, causing even greater hardship for the residents.

Questioning the government's development claims, residents ask why the people of North and South Padmabil are still deprived of safe and reliable connectivity. They have demanded immediate repair and upgrading of the damaged road, along with the construction of a permanent and secure bridge to prevent any future accidents or loss of life.
