Panic spread after unidentified miscreants allegedly targeted a moving vehicle by hurling bricks at it on National Highway 8 near Bajrabari under the jurisdiction of the Gorji Outpost on Friday night.
According to reports, Bilonia-based businessman Narayan Sur was returning home with his wife after her medical treatment in Chennai. After arriving at Agartala Airport, the couple began their journey to Bilonia in their private vehicle, with Sur himself behind the wheel.
The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. when the vehicle reached the Bajrabari area, approximately 500 metres from the Gorji Outpost. A group of unidentified individuals allegedly threw bricks at the moving car, damaging the front portion of the vehicle and its windshield.
Displaying remarkable presence of mind, Sur did not stop at the scene despite the attack. Instead, he continued driving and reached the Gorji Outpost safely, where he informed police about the incident. A written complaint was subsequently lodged.
Although no one was injured, the attack could have resulted in a serious accident. The incident has sparked concern among commuters and local residents, who have questioned the safety of travellers on the busy national highway.
Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint and are working to identify those involved. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen security measures along the highway to prevent similar incidents in the future.
