The recovery of the decomposed body of a missing elderly man from a forested area in Sepahijala district has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased has been identified as Jatindra Bhowmik, a resident of Chandranagar No. 1. According to family members, Bhowmik had been missing for the past 11 days after leaving his home and failing to return. Concerned relatives searched extensively for him and subsequently lodged a missing person report with the local police.
The grim discovery was made on Monday when local residents spotted a body hanging from a tree deep inside a forest, nearly three kilometres from the main Sepahijala road. Police were immediately informed and rushed to the scene to recover the body.
Authorities have provisionally identified the deceased as Jatindra Bhowmik. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, it is believed that the body had been hanging at the location for several days.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police have initiated an investigation and are exploring all possible angles, including whether any foul play was involved.
