Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma strongly refuted what he described as a “foolish and misleading” claim made by a senior political leader that the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill would be passed only if a particular party came to power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Pradyot said he had personally spoken to senior officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), who, according to him, expressed “shock” at the claim and confirmed there was no such linkage.
"I have seen statements suggesting that the bill will be cleared only if one party rules the TTAADC. This is absolutely false. The officials in Delhi have categorically stated there is no truth in it. The amendment is not confined to Tripura alone; it covers Bodoland, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Khasi Hills, Garo Hills and other autonomous councils as well. It will be implemented uniformly across all 10 district councils in the Northeast,” Pradyot said.
He further criticised attempts to “mislead” indigenous communities, asserting that such tactics were based on outdated assumptions.
“Some people still believe our indigenous people are uneducated. They are wrong. It is they who appear foolish for making such irresponsible statements. I would urge them to first read the law and understand the Constitution before speaking,” he added.
Pradyot maintained that the 125th Amendment Bill should be implemented at the earliest and expressed hope that the Centre would move forward without further delay.
