The Tripura Government has made it compulsory for all schools in the state to begin the school day with the full rendition of the National Song, Vande Mataram followed by the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana.

The directive was issued by the School Education Department through a notification dated July 3, 2026. The decision follows guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 28, 2026, concerning the proper respect, protocol, and rendition of the National Song.

The new rule applies to all educational institutions in Tripura, including government schools, government-aided schools, private schools, and both aided and unaided recognised madrassa schools.

According to the Education Department, the initiative aims to strengthen national unity, encourage patriotism among students, and ensure uniform adherence to protocols associated with national symbols. Under the revised morning assembly schedule, students and staff will sing the complete version of Vande Mataram, immediately followed by the National Anthem.

The notification also states that all students, teachers, and school employees must stand in attention whenever the National Song is sung or played, in accordance with the prescribed code of respect and decorum.

The policy received approval from the Tripura Council of Ministers during its meeting on June 25, 2026, and came into force on July 3, 2026. The notification was issued by Additional Secretary Rajib Datta on behalf of the Government of Tripura.
