The Tripura government has sounded an Orange Alert across the state, directing all district administrations to remain on high alert after the Meteorological Centre, Agartala, predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
According to the IMD forecast, South Tripura district may witness intense rainfall between August 21 and 25, while Gomati and Sepahijala districts are likely to be affected on August 24 and 25.
The remaining districts have been placed under a Yellow Alert during the same period.
In an advisory issued to all District Magistrates and Collectors, Additional Secretary J.V. Duati instructed officials to stay fully prepared to tackle any emergency situation. Rescue and relief forces including NDRF, SDRF, TSR, Fire & Emergency Services, quick response teams, and trained volunteers have been asked to remain on standby.
The advisory has also directed districts to keep flood-rescue gear such as boats and life jackets ready, closely monitor river water levels and embankments, and shift people living in vulnerable low-lying areas to safe shelters if required. Authorities have been told to ensure timely damage assessment, quick restoration of essential services in case of disruption, and submit daily situation reports to the State Emergency Operations Centre by 2 PM.
The government has urged district administrations to act strictly in accordance with their disaster management plans and keep track of real-time weather updates from the IMD. Citizens have also been advised to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines during the anticipated spell of heavy rain.
