Bodhjungnagar Police arrested two persons and seized 1,435 bottles of intoxicating cough syrup from the Khayerpur area during a late-night operation on Wednesday.

According to Bodhjungnagar Police Station's Second Officer-in-Charge, Parikshit Debbarma, the estimated market value of the seized cough syrup is around Rs 4 lakh.

Speaking to the media, Debbarma said that acting on a secret tip-off, police conducted a raid in coordination with Khayerpur Outpost personnel. During the operation, a DCM vehicle from Jirania was intercepted, leading to the recovery of five packets containing a total of 1,435 bottles of the banned cough syrup.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment had been transported through a delivery agency. To identify the individuals behind the shipment, police personnel in plain clothes kept surveillance in the area. Subsequently, two persons arrived to collect the consignment and were immediately detained.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify those involved in the smuggling network. Further legal action is underway.
