A sense of unease has spread through West Nalchar after a married woman and mother of two suddenly went missing, leaving behind her infant child who is still dependent on breastfeeding.
According to family members, Sohail Barman, wife of Bimal Namah, had been married for about eight years through a social ceremony. The couple has two children, aged six years and two years respectively.
Relatives said the incident occurred on May 8, when Sohail left her home stating she was going to the local market. However, she never returned. After waiting for several hours, the family began searching for her at relatives’ homes and nearby areas, but no information about her whereabouts has been found so far.
Following unsuccessful searches, her husband lodged a missing complaint at Melaghar Police Station. Police have since begun an investigation, though no clear leads have emerged yet, leaving uncertainty over whether the case is a simple disappearance or involves other factors.
The situation has had a severe emotional impact on the family, especially the couple’s two-year-old child, who has reportedly been crying continuously in the absence of the mother. Family members are currently taking care of the child in distressing circumstances.
Bimal Namah has appealed to the public for help, urging anyone with information about his wife to contact the police or the family immediately.
The disappearance has triggered concern among local residents, who are now awaiting progress from authorities as the investigation continues.
