Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring quality education, with a strong focus on digital learning.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new building at Ramnagar Higher Secondary School (English Medium) in Agartala, Dr. Saha emphasized the need for teachers to stay in sync with evolving technology to educate students effectively.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, virtually inaugurated new buildings at four other institutions: Barakantal Higher Secondary School, Darogamura High School (English Medium), Khudiram Basu English Medium School, and Sukanta Academy English Medium Higher Secondary School.
Reflecting on the past, the Chief Minister recalled the dismal state of education in the 1970s, describing it as anarchic and detrimental to students' futures. “Today, with rapid changes in the education system, dropout rates are declining, and we are witnessing real progress,” he said.
Highlighting recent initiatives, Dr. Saha said that around Rs 8.70 crore had been spent on the newly inaugurated buildings. Looking ahead, the state plans to upgrade infrastructure in 123 schools with an estimated investment of over Rs 151 crore—covering new classrooms, toilets, labs, libraries, hostels, and more.
He added that the government is also ramping up recruitment of quality teachers through the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) to ensure effective implementation of education policies.
“Students today are tech-savvy, and teachers must adapt. The digital era offers immense potential, and we must harness it for inclusive growth,” he said.
Dr. Saha also stressed the need to bring underserved groups—including the poor, minorities, and women—into the mainstream education system.
