As floodwaters begin to recede in parts of Tripura and West Manipur, Assam Rifles has stepped up its efforts to prevent a looming health crisis.
With stagnant water and heightened humidity creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and raising sanitation concerns, the paramilitary force has launched a series of medical and relief interventions across the flood-affected regions.
On June 5, Assam Rifles initiated a large-scale fogging drive in the severely impacted areas of Chandrapur and Resham Bagan under the Sadar Sub-Division of West Tripura District.
Conducted in close coordination with the civil administration, the fogging operation aims to check the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.
Simultaneously, a medical camp was organized at Dologaon Bazar in Kailashahar, Unakoti District. Around 120 displaced civilians were screened for multiple ailments, and free medicines were distributed. In a critical instance, a 40-year-old woman named Mausami was brought in an unconscious state and was promptly treated by Assam Rifles’ medical team, who successfully stabilized her condition.
In West Manipur, the Assam Rifles extended its humanitarian outreach by organizing medical camps and distributing food supplies in the flood-hit regions of Kamranga and Chotabekra in Jiribam District, and Tatbung in Tamenglong District. A total of 184 individuals received medical attention, while five displaced families were provided with free rations.
Assam Rifles’ swift and compassionate response in the aftermath of the floods reinforces its reputation as the ‘Sentinels of the North East’, ever vigilant in safeguarding the well-being of the region’s citizens.
