Crime rate drops by 10%, focus on crime prevention: Tripura DGP

Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag on Sunday said that the state has witnessed a 10% drop in the crime rate so far this year, attributing the decline to enhanced efforts in crime prevention and policing reforms.

DGP Anurag made these remarks during his maiden visit to South Tripura district after assuming charge as the state’s top cop.

“I am visiting South District for the first time as DGP. Earlier, I had visited this district in the capacity of DG (Intelligence), and I also served here as the District Superintendent of Police in 1999. So I know this district very closely,” he said.

Highlighting the priorities of the Tripura Police, Anurag said, “Our main goal is to ensure that the general public benefits from police services. Crime prevention, maintaining law and order, conducting thorough investigations, and ensuring timely prosecution are our key focus areas.”

He added that the Tripura Police are aligned with the state government’s vision, particularly Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s “Nasha Mukt Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura) initiative. “We will be holding discussions on how to effectively implement these priorities and further improve our performance,” the DGP noted.

He further stated that with concerted efforts, the state has seen a 10% decrease in the crime rate so far this year, and stressed the need to build upon this progress.

During the visit, the DGP held a meeting with South District Superintendent of Police Mourya Krishna C, Additional SP Suman Majumder, along with Officer-in-Charges (OCs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) of the district.
