The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) on Monday the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, has issued a stern warning of a statewide agitation if no action is taken against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma.
The federation has demanded government intervention following an incident where the DM allegedly refused to meet Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion, Pradyot Kishor Manikya Debbarma.
In a dramatic turn of events earlier today, members of the YTF locked the office of the Gomati DM in protest. According to the protesters, the action was triggered after the DM purportedly declined an audience with Debbarma at his residence.
Speaking to reporters at the protest site, YTF President Suroj Debbarma said, “We had warned earlier that if the state government fails to respond, we will initiate district-wide office lockouts. Today, we have locked two government offices in Gomati. This is just the beginning.”
Debbarma further cautioned that the agitation could escalate into a larger movement across Tripura. “If the government does not act by this evening, we will extend our protest to other districts — South, Sepahijala, North, and beyond. Road blockades and shutdowns of government offices are being considered,” he said.
The YTF has set a 96-hour deadline for the government to resolve the issue. “This is not a minor issue. It concerns respect and accountability. If the matter is not addressed within four days, we will be compelled to intensify our agitation across the state,” Debbarma added.
The organization has called on the state administration to take the matter seriously and initiate steps to restore public confidence.
The state government has not yet issued a response regarding the allegations or the YTF’s ultimatum.
