Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has urged Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu to introduce a direct flight service between Agartala and Mumbai, highlighting the growing need for better air connectivity between the northeastern state and India's financial capital.

In a letter addressed to the Union Minister, Chowdhury referred to his earlier communication dated March 16, 2025, and a subsequent discussion held in December 2025 regarding the issue. He emphasized that Tripura, as a strategically significant state in the Northeast, requires stronger air links with major metropolitan cities across the country.

The Minister noted that Mumbai serves as a key hub for trade, healthcare, education, tourism, and employment, making it one of the most important destinations for residents of Tripura. However, travelers currently have to rely on connecting flights with lengthy layovers, resulting in significant inconvenience, particularly for students, patients, business professionals, and government officials.

Chowdhury stated that a direct flight between Agartala and Mumbai would not only improve travel convenience but also strengthen regional connectivity and contribute to Tripura’s socio-economic development. He requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to explore the possibility of launching a direct service or, alternatively, improving existing connectivity through more convenient flight schedules under the appropriate policy framework.

The Minister expressed hope for the Union Minister’s personal intervention and support in enhancing air connectivity between Tripura and Mumbai.
