The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the state government over the power system, smart meter installation, law and order situation, and healthcare services during a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan.

Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty alleged that the installation of smart meters was leading to unnecessary expenditure of public money and causing severe inconvenience to ordinary consumers. He claimed that the smart meter system was “completely fraudulent” and accused the government of using artificial intelligence in an anti-people manner.

Chakraborty said electricity consumers in several areas, including Dharmanagar and Teliamura, were suffering due to server-related problems after the introduction of smart meters. Questioning the government’s failure to resolve technical issues, he asked why common people should bear the consequences of server failures.

The Congress leader also raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the poor condition of healthcare services. He alleged that despite the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, effective action had not been taken against the main accused. He further claimed that influential persons could be involved in such activities.

Reiterating the party’s demands, the Congress called for the cancellation of the smart meter project, withdrawal of increased electricity bills, and improvement of power supply services across the state.

Chakraborty also expressed concern over the reported theft of donation money from the donation box at the Ram Temple.

Pradesh Congress President of the Sadar district Tanmoy Roy and Congress treasurer Shyamal Pal were also present at the press conference.
