Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government has already initiated action against an IAS officer and an IFS officer facing allegations of corruption involving crores of rupees, asserting that the cases will now proceed in accordance with the law.

The statement comes amid two high-profile corruption cases. In one, IAS officer Abhishek Chandra has been booked in connection with an alleged Rs 14.5-crore tender processing scam. In the other, South Tripura Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Gaurav Ravindra Wagh, an IFS officer, is under scrutiny after his maternal uncle was detained with Rs 59,94,500 in cash. Wagh is currently absconding.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the government had acted promptly after the allegations surfaced and had taken all necessary measures permitted under the law.

"The government has already taken the required action. We cannot act beyond the legal framework. The law will take its own course," Dr. Saha said.

Referring to the IAS officer, he noted that the government had removed him from his position immediately after the matter came to its notice. On the absconding IFS officer, the Chief Minister said departmental proceedings have already been initiated and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

"He is absconding at present, but he will be arrested soon. The department has already taken action, and we are closely monitoring the matter," the Chief Minister added.
