Nearly one month and twenty days after the previous counting, the 17 donation boxes and treasury chest of the historic Tripurasundari Temple in Udaipur were opened on Tuesday morning. The counting of offerings began under tight security and administrative supervision and was expected to continue until the evening.
To ensure transparency and smooth execution of the process, the Gomati District Administration constituted a special 17-member team to carry out the counting. According to officials, each donation box was opened and counted in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
It may be recalled that during the previous counting on May 18, the temple received more than ₹20.52 lakh in cash along with foreign currencies. Officials believe that foreign currencies are likely to be found again this time. However, members of the counting team made a preliminary assessment that the total collection may be slightly lower than the previous count.
The continued presence of foreign currencies in the donation boxes is being seen as a reflection of the growing popularity of the revered Tripurasundari Temple among international tourists and foreign devotees.
Deputy Collector Chandrasekhar Chattopadhyay, who is overseeing the counting process, said that the exercise is being conducted strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines and is expected to conclude between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The opening of the donation boxes also generated considerable interest and enthusiasm among devotees gathered at the temple premises.
