The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Agartala has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Tripura over the next three days due to prevailing weather systems affecting eastern and northeastern India.
For July 8, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai and Gomati districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places. A Yellow Warning has been issued for the remaining districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
On July 9, a Yellow Warning will remain in effect across all districts of the state. For July 10, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts.
According to the IMD, the current weather conditions are being influenced by the seasonal trough at mean sea level extending from southwest Rajasthan to northeast Bangladesh through a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh. The trough passes through north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, is also contributing to increased moisture incursion over Tripura, resulting in widespread rainfall activity.
Several parts of the state have already received substantial rainfall during the past 24 hours, between 8:30 am on July 7 and 8:30 am on July 8. Chawmanu in Dhalai district recorded the highest rainfall at 139.2 mm, followed by Lembucherra in West Tripura with 105.5 mm. Kumarghat in Unakoti district received 92 mm, while Kadamtala in North Tripura recorded 58 mm.
